Your starting point is to look into what we in the travel business call the “Rack” rate, which is the full-price non-discounted room. It’s the rate you pay during peak occupancy periods when the hotel is typically full.

Knowing the peak occupancy periods is the first step in getting a discount. These periods usually coincide with times when school is out, meaning summer vacation, spring break and the traditional December holidays. There are times when the weeks immediately before and after the peak periods are when rooms are the most heavily discounted.

On a side note, the parks can be very crowded the last couple days of the school year as many Florida school and children’s groups take field trips to Disney and the parks can be quite crowded.

If a discounted price is your main consideration, you will want to look into the Disney Value Properties. They include All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, All-Star Sports and the Pop Century Resort. The rack rates range from $59 to $82 per night. many guests give these resorts good ratings. When you visit our Hotels.com site to check rates and availability, be sure you read the Trip Advisors for the hotels to see what other visitors thought of the hotels.

When staying on-site at Disney properties, be sure to inquire about the different packages that include tickets and meals. All of these properties include transportation to all the Disney parks. You also want to be aware that many of these hotels can be several miles (anywhere from 2 to 7 miles)  from the Disney parks so if you are planning on having a view of the parks, realize you are not close enough. The properties with the views are the Deluxe Disney properties.

The discount Disney resorts cater to families. The rooms are typically smaller and the grounds are normally filled with the sounds of children. The buffet meals are great for a harried family as the service is quick and there is a good meal selection for all ages. Overall, these resorts are a good value. If price is a major factor and you want to be on-site, you will likely enjoy your stay. Once again, read the Trip Advisors to see what others say before you make your decision.
